Massage Therapy Group COVID-19 Protocols
PRE-SCREENING (for new and returning patients):
On April 1st, 2022 the Provincial Health Officer revised the mandatory mask policy for all health regulatory colleges and it is no longer mandatory to wear masks.
However, it is still advised to wear a mask when in “close, in-person patient/therapist contact.” (PHO) At the Massage Therapy Group, we continue to encourage wearing a mask when in the reception and common areas. While in the treatment room the choice of mask-wearing is based on mutual consent between the therapist and the patient. We appreciate your cooperation as we do our best to minimize the risk of any viral transmission.
COVID-19 SYMPTOMS (from Canada.ca/coronavirus)
Symptoms of Covid-19 are similar to other respiratory illnesses including the flu and common cold. They include:
- Fever (37 degrees C is average oral temp. in adults)
- chills
- cough
- shortness of breath
- sore throat & painful swallowing
- stuffy or runny nose
- loss of sense of smell
- headache
- muscle aches
- fatigue
- loss of appetite
- a few days after onset of above, you may have diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
CONSENT TO TREATMENT FORMS:
these must be signed by new patients and returning patients because the context of
treatment has changed with Covid-19. We can minimize the risk of viral transmission by adhering to self-assessment guidelines, hand hygiene, physical distancing and the use of masks where appropriate but it’s not possible to reduce the risk to zero.
Therapist and patient must acknowledge this and weigh the risk and benefits of massage treatment.
TRAVEL OUTSIDE B.C.:
TRAVEL ADVISORY
All non-essential travel should be avoided. Please refer to www.gov.bc.ca for further clarification.
WAIVER:
Professional liability insurance for RMTS requires the patient to sign a waiver of liability before treatment begins with respect to a possible claim related to Covid-19 transmission by an RMT. A waiver of liability is a different document than a consent to treatment form.
